Chapter 6

The Chamber of Imagination

2 min · Adam G.

The next room contains what has never happened.

Its doors open onto tomorrow, onto distant landscapes, onto conversations you may never have. Here you can rebuild a life before taking a single step. You can rehearse disaster until your body prepares to face it. You can imagine a possibility that draws you into years of work.

This is the chamber of imagination.

Watch a world form.

First there is an image. It acquires detail. Desire gives it importance. Thought begins building paths toward it. Soon the imagined world is shaping the life outside the temple.

An Egyptian voice meets us here.

In the Memphite creation account, Ptah brings forth through heart and tongue. What is conceived inwardly takes form through expression. The image joins intention with creation, the hidden with the manifest.

Beside it stands the Hermetic vision of Mind.

The ancient Poimandres opens its revelation through divine Mind and light. Much later, The Kybalion gives Mentalism its familiar declaration: “THE ALL is MIND; The Universe is Mental.”

As we stand among the worlds of imagination, this teaching opens a greater question. What if the invisible interior is fundamental to existence? What if the relation between intention and form, so intimate in human experience, points toward creation’s dependence upon a divine knowing?

The chamber grows vast around that question.

The question concerns the ground of existence. Human imagination shows us something about the power of an inward image, while the divine Mind of Hermetic vision exceeds the restless private mind that worries about tomorrow.

Consciousness preceding matter can therefore mean a priority deeper than an earlier moment on a clock. It asks upon what the world depends for its being.

A melody depends upon its source through every note. Within a consciousness-first vision, creation depends upon its Source through every moment of existence.

The world acquires the character of something received.

Other people remain centers of life whom we encounter. Their suffering is not a verdict upon the quality of their thoughts. Their freedom exceeds our wishes. Mentalism becomes fruitful when it deepens our participation in a reality greater than our private demands.

The chamber’s power asks for proportion. The capacity to imagine a world is held within a life we did not invent.

You have not moved farther into outer space. You have discovered depth within consciousness.

A remembered city and an imagined future can occupy this inward world without requiring another acre of land. A whole dream can unfold while your body remains still. The space of experience follows a geography of its own.

Here, the meaning of spiritual dimensions begins to change.

A deeper dimension opens when consciousness can encompass what previously enclosed it. You can be inside a fear, seeing everything through its urgency. Then you can become aware of the fear, its images, its pull upon your body, and the intention gathering around it.

The experience has gained an inward depth.

The doorway was attention.
